1. What Exactly Is a Crochet-Along (CAL)?

A CAL, or Crochet-Along, is a wonderful online event where crocheters – just like you! – come together to work on the same project at the same time.

We release the pattern in parts over several weeks, so you can share your progress, ask for help, and cheer on your fellow makers in our community. It’s a fantastic way to learn new skills and make new yarn-friends!

2. What Are We Making?

We’re making the Aura Lapghan, a gorgeous motif blanket designed by Toni Lipsey. The design is all about exploring the versatility and fun of hexagons, and the project is built from 10 unique hexagon motifs (... in total 85 full size hexagons plus 6 half hexagons!)

The project of the #FrostandBloomCAL is the 'Aura' Lapghan

3. Who Is the Designer?

We are so thrilled to once again partner up with the one and only Toni Lipsey! Toni is the brilliant designer and instructor behind TL Yarn Crafts. Her universe is all about making crochet approachable, modern, and beautiful. She’s a fantastic teacher, and she's just as excited as we are to see everyone’s progress.

You can (and should!) follow her on Instagram and YouTube. 😉

P.S. We got all the juicy details from Toni! Click here to read our full interview and learn all about her inspiration for the Aura Lapghan.

4. When Is This All Happening?

Mark your calendars! 📅 Here are the dates for the release of all parts of #FrostandBloomCAL:

  • Part 1: February 3, 2026
  • Part 2: February 10, 2026
  • Part 3: February 17, 2026
  • Part 4: February 24, 2026
  • Part 5: March 3, 2026
  • Part 6: March 10, 2026

5. Is the Pattern Free?

Yes, the pattern is 100% FREE during the CAL!

IMPORTANT: The pattern will only be free for the duration of the CAL. On March 30, 2026, the pattern will become a paid pattern available on Hobbii Plus. So be sure to sign up and download the final pattern!

6. How do I Get the Pattern?

The best way to join the CAL is to sign up for #FrostandBloomCAL.

By signing up, you’ll:

  • Get the weekly pattern parts straight to your email inbox at 10 am CET every Tuesday.
  • Be the first to know about everything, including giveaways and updates.
  • Ensure you don’t miss a single stitch.

Important! Make sure to sign up before February 3 to receive the first pattern drop. You can still sign up after the CAL has begun, but you will only receive upcoming emails, starting from the next pattern part drop (see the CAL calendar above).

Prefer to check the site yourself? No problem – the pattern will also be updated weekly on the same CAL pattern page throughout the event.

7. What's the Skill Level?

This CAL is rated as intermediate.

BUT! Don't let that scare you off. Designer Toni Lipsey strongly encourages confident beginners to jump in:

“I would absolutely encourage confident beginners to give this pattern a try. The real beauty of a Crochet-Along is the community that surrounds participants during the CAL period. This atmosphere encourages experimentation and beginners can get a taste of new stitches and techniques they haven’t tried before.”

A CAL is the perfect supportive environment to try new things and watch your skills grow.

You should be comfortable with these basics:

  • Single and double crochet
  • The magic ring
  • Changing colors
  • Working in the round

Want to be even better prepared? Also practice these stitches and techniques:

  • Cluster stitch
  • Popcorn stitch
  • Spike stitch
  • Standing stitches
  • Motif assembly

Want the full overview? Read this blog post to be prepared for the stitches featured in the CAL. Also, make sure your tension is on point with this blog post.

Heads up! The pattern uses US crochet terms, and there are no crochet charts. But don't you worry! Toni will guide you with supportive video tutorials for each part.

8. What Yarn Is Used?

We’re keeping the exact yarn a surprise for now! That's part of the fun. But we can tell you this:

It’s a lovely medium weight yarn. The fiber blend is cotton, acrylic, and wool. This blend is perfect for the Aura Lapghan—it’s lightweight and soft, but also warm and cozy thanks to the cotton and wool, making it the ideal blanket to snuggle under as winter blooms into spring! 🥰

9. What's in the #FrostandBloomCAL Kit?

The kit has everything you need to create your blanket, including yarn, accessories, and a CAL-exclusive canvas bag!

Kits are limited and will be available starting December 3, 2025. This makes a perfect holiday gift for a yarn-loving friend... or for yourself!

Get a kit here ➜

Note: No Crochet Hook in the Kit

The one main thing you’ll need to supply yourself is a crochet hook. Toni recommends size 4mm (US G-6), but please make a swatch to check your gauge.

You'll also want to have your favorite notions on hand, like a pair of scissors and a measuring tape. Because this is a motif project, we also highly recommend blocking your hexagons before joining, so a blocking board and pins will be your best friend.

Nice to Have:

10. Where Can I Share My Project and Get Help?

The best place to be is our Hobbii Make-Alongs Facebook group! It’s a wonderful, supportive community where you can ask questions, show off your beautiful hexagons, and see how everyone else is doing.

You can also share your progress on Instagram and Facebook! Be sure to use the official hashtag #FrostandBloomCAL and tag @hobbii_yarn and @tlyarncrafts.

Did Someone Say... GIVEAWAY?
